Maybe "brilliant" means something different in Swedish?

When you say the domain is 17 years old, it has to retain its original registration date of 1996. If it gets deleted, it's as old as the new registration date, in this case 2013.

This is basic domaining, maybe I need to put together an FAQ for the n00bs.

You shouldn't be allowed to say its 17 years old. Its misleading. Perhaps you could say it has a domain history of 17 years but the age of a domain is defined by the current reg date.
