Can't change contact details first 60 days after a transfer?

Is this true, just bought a name and transferred it to GD only to be told I can't put it in my name for 60 days.

Is this right?

That's a godaddy issue. Cmon, man...you used to work for them.

I think this one may be a CIRA rule.

It is not the Go Daddy 60 day rule holding this up.

Anyone else have this issue?

Never heard of that man, if anything just a transfer hold, not yes you can transfer but not change name, that seems odd.

Supposed to be a transfer rule (resets every time the contact info is changed) but never had an issue changing the contact info etc...

Here is the official word from CIRA:

http://cira.ca/assets/Documents/Legal/Registrants/registrationrules.pdf

section 8.1.B.

b) Limitiations. Notwithstanding Section 8.1a), no changes to a Registrant for a
Domain Name Registration may occur within 60 days following: (a) the
Registration Date; a change of Registrant; or a change of Registrar, for that
Domain Name Registration.

...

Its the way Godaddy handles the transfer process that invokes the 60 day lock on you. It is a Godaddy problem.

Use a registrar that understands the CIRA rules fully.

Most registrars don't have a 60 day lockout

It is:

60 days after first registration
60 days after the birth of your first born son
60 days after renewal
60 days after church baptism
60 days after registrant transfer
60 days after filing taxes

Everything else is just a GoDaddy quirk.

This was from CIRA directly, not GD.

This is true...happened at the same time they made the change to using the EPP code for transfers.

The difference betweeen .CA and GD's 60 day is that this is only for the first days of a new .CA registration whereas with GD they stick a 60 in there whenever you change to a new owner or change contact info.

All .CA registrars will do it for the first 60 days from new registration as it is mandated by CIRA.

I thought that was what I was saying in the previous post.

I think there is some kind of misunderstanding here. The way CIRA replied to you means that there is no way to do both: transfer domain name, and change ownership at the same time. I think the registrar should be able to go into their system and just change it manually. If I am wrong, than CIRA rule doesn't make any sense at all. I would like to know what is the proper way to change ownership nowadays.

According to CIRA when I am buying a domain name I will have to push the domain name within the same registrar, after that change the contact iformation to mine, wait 60 days, and finally move the domain name to the desired registrar? This is the proper way to go? Why there is so much hassle?

I have initiated a rar-rant transfer from 10dollar.ca several times and accomplished a simulateous transfer. It was a breeze. The key is this. When initiating the rar transfer at the "gaining" rar site you have to show your own registrant details as the gaining registrant. Now, if the rar you are using doesnt have place holders for your information than I suppose a simultaneous rar-rant cant be done through that registrar. This was tried through godaddy by the buyer of hers(dot)ca and GD was only able to process the rar part but at least it is in his account. He has to wait 60 days from then to do the rant. Check the whois. You will see its still in our name at GD.

Not So! - DomainsAtCost did the same 60-day to me as well

DomainsAtCost did the same to me too. I took my privacy off and it locked me for another 60 but on the 61st day I moved all my names out.

I just bought over 40 names from various rars, all I did was request a transfer, entered the epp code and baam everything switched over rar/rant. The rar I use is namespro.
