I like Math.kids.us out of the three. It's a core subject all "kids" have to take.

Maybe when I get Sponsor.kids.us up I could find you a sponsor to create revenue for you.

I agree, Math.kids.us is certainly the best of the three. But, can one make money in .kids.us ?? i.e. how do you monetize the site?

Sponsorship (as in Sponsor.kids.us)

Here is what you'd do:

Approach a engineering firm (or whomever that is closely tied to math). Have them pay you a monthly fee to create a ".kids.us" site that has to do with math. Make it a fun site geared towards getting ".kids" interested in math.

The sales pitch to the company you'd approach would be something like this: How would you like to help a .kid learn new math skills so that someday they could work for you?

It would be pretty hard to turn that down. Also since corporate CEO's have children too, they know what a problem it is keeping children off XXX sites. The added plus here is that you'd viturally guarantee at no time would Math.kids.us be connected to porn. The Sponsorship would be considered a "sure bet". As opposed to a non-protected site, that could put questionable stuff on their sites. The tough restrictions to Kids.us site's makes it more attractive to potential sponsors.

btw: If you are going to buy a "kids.us" name make sure corporations would sponsor the site... I can't see them sponsoring "Believe.kids.us", or something off the wall like that... Math.kids.us is good, FunMath.kids.us is bad....

Izopod,

basically soft sell.

I registered songs.kid.us due to there strenght in indirectly teaching children their ABC's and Months and even Math. It plays a role in being to able to utilize educational sessions.

card.kid.us simply provides free and instant gratification to a child who sends his/her seasonal birthday / greeting card.

Of the core classes children attend, math is the easiest in making interactive (web site) as an educational tool. In addition, their could be some ecommerce via those $49.99 mini math computers. How interactive can you make history or english. Science can be extremely huge, but can be a bit costly to maintain.

The closing point goes back to izopod's concept of soft selling sponsorship. I have several Multinationals nearby that LOVE the KIDS in the U.S.

.kids are our #1 resource. They are our future. It's time we provide them with the kind of internet where they can flourish.

If we do nothing, we are guilty of child endangerment, as any child getting on the internet for the first time is a prime target for predators prowling the 'net.

That's where .kids.us comes in.... Would you sponsor a site if you knew that it would teach a child something new, in an environment set up to protect them?

Being a "Good Neighbor" is the way I see it. And remember. Every CEO, or most rather most have or have had children.

There is no easier sell than that. I will stake my reputation on it...

izopod,
Sponsor.kids.us

btw: I plan on charging a hefty sponsorship fee on my Fly.kids.us website. There is nothing "pro-bono" about this. It's still a business, but one I certainly don't mind being in.

Still early to tell, but excellent names none the less.

I believe the optimists who go all the way with developing this namespace will be greatly rewarded one way or another.

Kids.us is already very popular, being in the news and in Congress and what not. Sites could very well get free advertising and exposure from the Government, who has every intention to promote this area, not to mention the Kids.us directory itself.

Another benefactor I have been weighing is the fact that all domains will be "subdomains" of kids.us, possibly making this domain one of the highest linked-too websites on the net., and we all know what that means as far as search engine positioning at places such as Google.
Quite possibly "math.kids.us" may be #1 under "math" in a year or so at Google...you just never know.

Good Luck!

I also like math.kids.us and songs.kids.us to a lesser extent.

The former is a 3-letter word, easy to remeber and a topic of huge concern for kids and parents. Why not make learning math fun and stress-free for both groups?

I also wonder if this content subject would overlap with other (many, I imagine) educational kids.us sites that (hopefully) will soon sprout. ie school, kids,us, learn.kids.us, homework.kids.us, study.kids.us etc etc.

On a side note,

Izopod, when will your sponsor.kids.us site be up?

Could you please keep me informed?

I will definitely keep you and everyone else interested in sponsor.kids.us informed when the site is launched... Not sure how long Neustar's "Content Verification" process takes. Shouldn't be a problem, since we'd act as a catalyst for development of the space.

Sounds great. I wonder if your site will be the 2nd one to go "live" after Smithsonian.kids.us.

It would be a very interesteing balance of perspectives for usage of the namespace.

How is your site going to sell into being (directly) kids friendly?
