Hey,

I was wondering if there a good way to check domain availability without actually going to a website has you enter the information. Similar to the way that you can either go to a registrar's website to check the WHOIS, or get the package for linux and just run 'whois'.

I'm just looking for a linux based script or command to retrieve this sort of info. Any ideas?

Thanks,
Joe

# fwhois 'dom [email protected]'

- where fwhois a command in unix. "dom" means the domain @whois.crsnic.net being the whois server

Manu - I was wondering, I heard that the whois database isn't realtime as far as whether or not a domain is registered. fwhois provides realtime registration information? Also, I would assume the strong "No match for _" is the sole indicator that a domain is available?

Thanks,
Joe
