Hi. Something happened to me this morning that never happened before. I regged three .co.uk names with GoDaddy and got my receipts, followed by three of these messages:

The following domain name has failed to be registered:

XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX.CO.UK

Error: Could not get contacts needed for adding domain

We will evaluate this error and retry the registration
if appropriate.

If we are unable to successfully register the domain
name, your account will be credited accordingly. Please
allow one business day for the refund to be processed.

Please contact GoDaddy.com, Inc. if you need any further
assistance:
http://www.godaddy.com/gdshop/support.asp?prog_id=GoDaddy&isc=gdbb14

Sincerely,
GoDaddy.com, Inc

What could be the cause of this and what are my chances of getting the domains?

Sounds like the domains were not available to register. Godaddy has this problem often and for a couple I tried to register a couple years ago, I had the same issue.

Always use a live whois like Moniker, eNom or Dynadot to check to see if a domain is available. Not Godaddy, as they only update there whois like every 4 hours.

Thanks, Jamie. But I had checked them on a co.uk site seconds before I went to register them at GoDaddy. Oh, well. Annoying, but nothing to be done, I suppose. Onwards and upwards. :)

With the information I got here, I went to a UK company and successfully (so far) reregistered the domains. I'm crossing my fingers I don't get a message saying I can't have them. :)
