This post is a bit lengthy so bare with me.
This site is a project I worked on hardly.
The idea is to have interesting sites submitted by users and let the community decide what to bring to the top and what not to, close to the idea of digg but with a different twist.
Features
* Site is custom coded with hours of work invested in it
* Custom template for the site and easy to change through a header and footer
* User registration with field validation
* Upon registration, the user is sent an email with a validation link he should follow in order to activate his account
* The login system can detect whether the login is incorrect or if the user did not yet activate his account
* Users can submit websites without being registered. A captcha system is in place.
This is to allow more listings to come in and not to worry much about spam because of the next point
* Registered users can report a site for being spam etc. When a site accumulates 10 reports (i.e. 10 different members), it is deemed unworthy of listing and thus deactivated
* Registered users can vote on each site
* Voting is done in an AJAX fashion, and updates the average voting and voting result accordingly.
* User is denied from voting twice on the same site and denied from trying to manipulate the url to vote as another member
* Same goes for the report button abuse
* The main page gives exposure to newly submitted site
* The rated listings page allows users to browse listings that already have a rating. The order is dependent on the average rating that this site has accumulated
* The unrated listings page helps users locate listings that did not yet get any attention.
* Pagination available to limit the number of listings per page (good for passing the search engine juice)
* Registered users can track the sites they have rated in their home panel. They can also see which ones of these rated sites have also been reported.
I am currently entertaining offers on this work. The domain was newly bought but fits very well the project.
