Hi all,

I noticed a high profile name on hold today according to DD but when i check local whois it does not appear to be on hold. If I check the whois database I get this message :Note: The registry database is currently inaccessible and we are unable to retrieve any information on the domain name you are trying to register. If you choose to proceed with this domain name please be aware that the domain name may already be taken.

What going on here?

Are you talking DD = Deleteddomains?

My experience tells that a domain is on hold does not necessarily mean it expired. One great example is ac.com, not sure why!!

So don't be too excited yet ;).

888,

if a domain is listed in deleted domains as being on hold then why isn't listed in local whois as being on hold.

The two services probably capture data from different sources. Just like sometimes news are reported a bit differently in CNN, Reuters and AP... :D. Its just my wild guess coz I'm not affiliated with any of them.

Perhaps some other members here can better answer your question?

Hey,

why is that sometimes when you try to access the whois database on a domain that is on hold or expiring it returns a message:

Note: The registry database is currently inaccessible and we are unable to retrieve any information on the domain name you are trying to register. If you choose to proceed with this domain name please be aware that the domain name may already be taken.

DeletedDomains.com and LocalWhois.com both provide oudated, and in my opinion, useless information.

LocalWhoIs is isually at leat a day behind on their listsings.

DeletedDomains about 12 hours - 1 day.

The average user won't notice this, and LocalWhoIs swears
to have the most recent lists (same goes for DD) and they
sure seem that way until you compare them to other
lists.

Bottom line, if you're looking for a nice clean search
use DD or LW but expect outdated information. If you want
to stay on top of the game find a different source.

domain retriever. can you recommend a free list that is faster than dd. i don't care if it is just a raw list. i have had good success with their "real time" list but anything that will give me a jump on speed i'd appreciate

exody.com

the list would be raw, and not as easy to
navigate through as DD or LW but is
definitely the best expired/expiring/hold
service out there.

once you get the hang of it, it can be
quite useful.

several expired domain sites (remaining
nameless) actually use exody's lists to power
their search.

hope this helps,
luc l.

DD probably lists ac.com "on hold" because it has no name servers assigned to it. This removes it from the .com zone file, and many b-grade zone file monitors falsely mark such a name as "on hold" when it isn't.
