Hi,

It's an ok name. I think the main issue here is that the
word means 'deportation', and I can't think of any great
uses for a site, with a name like that.

Arguably, such a site could offer services to Spanish folks
who are facing deportation from a country, but i'd say that,
for various reasons, this isn't a great idea (even 'though it
may be the only idea available to you..).

Even the English worded .com, deportation.com, is just a
place-holder page.

Good luck with it anyway!

:)

I disagree completely. Deportation is a huge issue and devastates the lives of many many people. There are currently 3 paid ads in Google search results for "deportation". One of these sites is Fight-Deportation{dot}com, which uses the English word as part of its domain name. (So if Deportation{dot}com is unused, my guess is that the owner is a domainer waiting for a big price.) Undoubtedly many individuals in the USA who are facing deportation will speak (and possibly search the internet) in Spanish; and they may also be more willing to trust a site whose name is in Spanish.

However, there are 2 issues. One is that browsers in the USA typically won't display the IDN in the legible way. The other is that I would expect most searches for this word to leave off the accent.

Ok, sure, I don't live in the US and am willing to be convinced
on this. Please be specific here, and let me know just how 'huge'
this issue is :)

However, there are 2 issues. One is that browsers in the USA typically won't display the IDN in the legible way. The other is that I would expect most searches for this word to leave off the accent.

Browsers are 'universal', however the default language-based
setting for your, and my, computer will be US 'standard' and
UK English, respectively. This means that unless we specifically
add the Spanish language to our computers' language settings
then the domain name deportación.com will resolve as
'xn--deportacin-obb.com' in the browser bar.

If, however, we do add the language, and I would imagine that
most Spanish speakers have it either by default or by design,
then the name will resolve as deportación.com in the browser
bar.

Cheers,
