Name seems familiar. Think he hangs around the forums.

When disasters like this strike, scam artists will step in. That's why it's good to only utilize large means of fundraising, if you want to contribute.

Disasters cause the very best and very worst people to respond.

The best reach out to help.

The worst reach out to exploit.

This loser obviously fits in the latter category.

I think this illustrates that someone will do pretty much anything to turn a profit.

While what he did was scummy, the previous registrant wasn't much better ... according to the article, she registered the domain for economic gain and was asking $99 for it.

In short, neither of them should have it ... hopefully some legitimate non-profit, that truly helps tsunami victims, gets the domain.

"The best thing is to go to trusted organizations," said Leslie Gottlieb, a spokeswoman for the American Red Cross in Greater New York

Absolutely!

Well, it's not as bad as it could be. He wasn't taking donations for himself, was he?. Of course.... I don't believe he planned on donating the $50k if he got it, but still. I think he had some good intentions, but he let his greed in the way..oh, and he obviously has very little morals.

Sky news just announced that they have discovered someone sending emails purporting to be from them, requesting donations to a named account - needless to say it's not from them.
How low can some people stoop?

Adverse times bring out the best (and the worst) among human beings. This guy is an example of the worst kind.

Why should a nonprofit use a .com domain instead of a more proper .org?

Because everyone is used to .com domains - remember Dick Cheney's gaffe?

Also, .ORG domains are not reserved for not-for-profit co's only.

I'm sure some people were already expecting this. But outrageous, just the
same.

Isn't Go Daddy going to do anything about this? They're ultra strict on certain
issues...unless this one doesn't take the cake...

I really wonder what's that kid really doing with the name so far. It's still
active.
