just try this experiment.
Put your dog and your wife in the trunk of the car for an hour.
When you open the trunk, see who is really happy to see you!

I did that once. I ended up sleeping on the couch for a month and guess where the dog slept? On the bed next to my wife.

They are your best fried but their loyalties can quickly change.
