England's win in the Rugby World Cup final will have plenty of commercial ramifications - and if any of it is in cyberspace, then a number of people are hoping they can cash in.
There has been plenty of speculation that the English coach Clive Woodward will be knighted in the New Year honours list - and in anticipation of that a company in France has registered the domains sirclivewoodward.com and sirclivewoodward.co.uk. Both were registered on November 23, barely a day after England defeated Australia 20-17 in Sydney to win the William Webb Ellis cup.
A bit of revenge for the French in one way, after England defeated them with ease in the semi-finals.
The man who kicked England to victory has also been the target of domain name squatters. The name jonnywilkinson.org.uk was registered on November 24, jonnywilkinson.biz was snapped up the same day and so was jonnywilkinson.info.
It did not end there. jonnywilkinson.org was snapped up on November 24 while jonnywilkinson.co.uk was registered in October. Data for jonnywilkinson.com shows it is not part of the rush to cash in - it was registered in December last year.
He may have led the team with distinction but the English skipper's name is not so much in demand - only one domain with his name, martinjohnson.co.uk, was registered in November, on the 22nd to be exact. Two other variants, the .com and .net, have been owned for a number of years by people who are obviously not part of this rush.
