Does anyone know a safe way to do a domain name trade with someone? I would just hate to tranfer my name and not have the other person transfer theirs to me.

Thanks.

escrow.com. Arrange for the sale price to be the same for each domain, so you break even, ie: trade. Make sure the price is the value of the domain, in case one of the deals does not happen.

Not sure if escrow.com will work for a trade.... The other person could scam and wind up with a "sale" instead of a trade.

I would suggest using an attorney. If the names have a small value, find a middle man that both of you trust or you know will be impartial.

Lew is probably right. Can you find a trusted third party? Someone you trust on the forum? That may be a way to go.

if the other person was the "initiator' of the trade, then he should transfer the domain to you first, then you transfer yours to him.

same as if he offered to buy the name for cash, get the money first, then transfer the domain.

Why doesn't someone start a service for easy trade of names?

I realize that there is some legal and financial expose here. But, they could specialize in simple transactions.

I know of a couple transactions I had this year thru Escrow that could have been put thru a less formal service.

Why doesn't someone try it out. They could start with

www.NameEscrow.org

(Please don't take the name if you don't plan on doing the service.)

What do you think about this idea?

And, maybe we all could work out a couple barter deals. Like webdesign, logo design, hosting, banners, legal advise, etc.
