I am in a weird situation. There is a domain that I was looking into trying to buy. I had trouble contacting the domain owner, but I eventually found out that he died a few years ago.

Is there any way to go about buying the domain?

It can be complicated. You'll have to deal with whomever is in charge of the Estate of the deceased. Hopefully they have access to his e-mail address and the whole thing will be easy (submit a transfer request)

Otherwise, the Estate will have to take it up with the registrar. I know Versign has a procedure in place to deal with this that involves faxing proof of death, etc.
