A discussion section for Domain Trading is desperately needed!

NamePopper and I exchanged some PMs about this subject, and he seemed receptive; he was going to discuss it with Greg and/ or the other powers-that-be, but I haven't heard back.

All domainers who support this initiative, please post your support!

I think it would prove to be a worthwile addition to the Forum ... though it must be administered (and enforced) with the same vigilance as the Auction(s) and Sales thread(s). That is most likely the decision to be weighed, IMHO.
Please keep me posted.
Good Luck.

It's been suggested a few times already...

There a 2 places you can trade domains...

1) Domains For Sale.
Just post an ad for trade only.

2) Domains Wanted.
Post a want ad, and ask for a trade.

:)

1. It's not a sale, it is a Trade

2. People will be pissed off if people start offering domains in the Wanted section

A trade is perfectly legal in the Domain For Sale forum.

Well, I've successfully posted a domain wanted ad, and offered a domain to trade, but if you're afraid to piss anyone off, you're better off with option 1.

:)

Why guess, why shoehorn it, why make it awkward for members --why not just do it RIGHT and create a Domain Trading category?

There are a couple reasons. I guess you didn't get my latest message - but there have been some weird things happening with pm's lately. So here we go....

First of all - what Doobie(GiantDomains) said is the real key here. Both of those options are perfectly acceptable - and have been done in the past. I don't think anybody has gotten (or will get) angry if you ask for trades. I still have not seen anything to support the claim that people will get angry if you post names "for trade only" in either of those two sections. Not to mention you are forgetting that we can tell people that it's OK - and that should quickly end any negative feedback that might arise.

Honestly - you are the only person who has regularly posted names and requested..."trade only". Others have done it (including myself) but it's the exception and not the rule.

So with all this being said - do you really think a separate section is required? After all - look at the lack of responses this thread has got. If the community felt we needed it - they would speak up. Lord knows that most people around here are not shy.

Don't get me wrong Cowboy - I'm not saying it's a bad idea. I'm just saying that it's not necessary. I can think of 100 things that would be considered good - but most of them are not worth the trouble - and would not make any significant improvement to the forum.

However - we have made many changes when the crowd demanded it - so if enough people come forward to request it then we will have to look at it again.

In the meantime - we have to go by what Mr. Spock said in one of the StarTrek movies.

"The needs of the many.... outweigh the needs of the one."

I have rarely ever seen anyone offer a domain for trade, so I would agree with Nick that this is something very few people are interested in doing. I know it holds no interest for me at all.

Different people have different objectives in the domain business.

Some people are looking to make money selling domains. That is OK, but there are others, including myself, who are more interested in building a portfolio. They are different crowds. Overserving the former may bring this forum closer to an AfterNIC model, which holds little interest for me.

Perhaps it would be wise to consider the TYPE of player who wants to trade, and ask if the forum wants to court this type of businessperson..

I agree there are several different approaches to the domain business. I'm only questioning whether there is enough interest in trading domains to warrant an entirely new section here. Based on the tepid response so far, it appears that you might end up being the only guy in the section. That hardly constitutes a "desperate need" for a new section.

Why don't you set up a new thread with a "poll" ... to gauge interest. Worth a shot at this point, I'd say.
Good Luck.

I've suggested this many times before. Whats the harm in creating a forum for it?. Why not just try it out and see what happens.
