Geographically talking it is in the south of the city center, but as paris is not small, there is a direct tube to champs elysees. It takes about 8 minutes to go there. couldnt be closer.

hmm....I lived in Paris for a few years, but I don't quite recognize Montparnasse in that description. It's an ok place for conferences though, and as Freddy said, the metro is efficient (and it saves you the hassle of dealing with crazy taxi drivers).
