Just want to clarify this as if you want to know about domains you ask here.

When a domain drops or is Deleted and is available to register for anyone does it lose its backlinks with Google? any experience you would care to share here would be greatly appreciated.

Hi

backlinks, are links to that domain name, which are located on "other" websites.

so, they will remain in place, until the webmaster of that/those respective websites removes the link.

imo...

Yes I understand that perhaps I was not clear

if the domain is deleted will google discredit the backlinks? i.e. the PR

PageRank is unique to Google and once a domain is expired it loses it's PageRank.

Backlinks are links pointed toward a domain name from other websites. When a domain expires those links are still there.

No, those backlinks are still relevant and are not discredited.

But, you do not want backlinks from a loan site when you have an insurance site, so the key is to be sure the site you build is relevant to the previous site. Otherwise, those backlinks are useless and will result in non converting traffic with a high bounce rate.
