I was wondering how these type of domains would rank, with their semi-nonsensical arrangement of words. I mean network.social, would it still make sense to people? Would it still rank among the top pages such as my keyword.gtld exact match?

They would still rank, if content were related to the proper order of the keywords. Don't expect gTLDs to rank as empty shells.

Certain extensions make sense from a development point of view, but stuff like .rest is a joke... All I have to say is there will be a lot of Chapter 11's filed next year...
