"Currently, eBay's EU sellers did not have to pay value added tax (VAT)
on eBay fees. A new EU directive on VAT means that beginning 1 July 2003,
eBay will begin collecting VAT on all eBay fees on eBay.co.uk and all other
EU eBay sites.

This will apply to all eBay sellers who reside, have a permanent address, or
are established in the European Union."

Beware, the Vatman commeth!

VAT registered users can gain exemption by informing Ebay of their VAT number.

Such bullshit, reminds me of the poll tax of the early 90's.

It's just another shot in the foot for the increasingly greedy eBay.
Just to get things clear, they will also be increasing some of their normal fees irrespective of the VAT inflated-prices. Just like politicians, they're 'burying' their evil deeds in the shadow of unpleasant news.
