Sorry if this is a newbie question.

Is there any service out there to help two persons to exchange domains? For example, Mr. A has A.COM and Mr. B has B.COM. After the domain exchange, A will get B.COM, B will get A.COM.

I do not think there is anything out there, but I would be more than happy to facilitate an exchange if you need somebody.

Exchanging is not such a bad idea, especially when those involved both get a new name that has more utility to them than the name they swapped.

The only snag is that people tend to have an over-inflated view of the value of their domain names, and may view the name being offered in exchange, as inferior to theirs.

A neutral third party to facilitate an exchange, as Bob is suggesting, is one way such an exchange system would work.

Neat idea. Excellent point about the inflated idea bout one's own domain. The other problem (variable) will be time left till expiry (esp for those low value domains "but mine has 9 months left and yours has only 2"
And yes the third party would also make sure that both parties go through with the transfer and keep track of deadbeats.

I was thinking about exchanging the last few days.
I know someone that owns the .org version of his name and I own the .net and .info version.
He owns the .info version of my .com.net.org.biz name.
I don't care if I get 1 and he gets 2! I just want my .info!
How do I do it?
Maybe setup a transfer with the cheapest escrow service for 1$?
But the transfers have to happen at the same time!?!

I think the model is workable.

The only question is how much are the people willing to pay for exchange service?

If the domain exchange also involves the transfer of registrars, it will add another $9 - $35 on top.

Well I think the optional 9$(?) are not bad.
Anyone knows what's the lowest fee for a transfer?

I know namebargain.com charges around $8.88 (add 1 year of registration).

I tried to search for free domain transfer service at search engines, but they always show me the paid webhosting service, which bundled with free domain transfer.

Hey,thats my idea! lol
I discussed this idea with Brad from thewebpage.com, he suggested I ask around to see if there was any interest in the idea. DomainExchange.com , is taken....
I think its a great idea, but I thought it could just be on the honor system..its too bad that the world is what it is... we could save allot of money on locks and keys if it was different....you could just push the dn into a free account...trade one for one, regardless what the reg date on it is.... but, maybe thats too easy...
