As far as I understand, at the moment those .school, .mp3 and .whatever need additional plugin in order to work - therefore they are bogus and have no value whatsoever. I know ill never install that shitty plugin.. Sorry

Most of the people are misinformed about "plugin".
It is an ICANN's policy who doesn't allow the truth
and freedom. But it is too late for us in Europe.

Well, as I understand, you cant access these sites without previously installed software (plugin). So it works only for people with "patched" browsers, not to mention the mixup when these tlds get officialy published. Anyway, why would anyone try to speculate about bogus domains, not approved by icann?

In the same sense .com is a bogus domain.
Any tld if accepted by any of the root servers is official and has
nothing to do with ICANN or its approval.
ICANN is a bogus organization set up for control and money
purposes, unfortunately too seriously accepted by entities
even outside of USA.
The most recent blamage was ICANN's "approval" of .eu domain,
which is another proof of human, especially European idiocy.

There are many other "official" tlds in the internet space like:
.bio, .cal., .cars, .etc, .food, .sat, .cam, etc, etc, which DO NOT
require any plug-in software in order to be seen.
Its all about DNS resolving or assigning right numerical address to
a human understandable name.
ICANN controled space is limited to the A- root server, hierarchicaly highest of 13 root servers, which resolve names like .com, .net, .org and some others and crowd
(nothing attract crowd like crowd) just goes with the mainstream
assigning DNS resolution up to the A-root.
It is nothing more than a database which says which name correspond to which numerical address.

It is kind of conspiracy where even search engines participate.
There is one of that kind : http://www.search.etc which of
course most users can't see right now. Five minutes after reading
this you will be able to use it if you want to.
Don't expect too much from this SE, it is still a "baby", this is just for the demonstration purpose.

(Ironically I made mistake with .school which is another story.

In order to see the rest of Internet you only have to set your
TCP/IP DNS resolution to either PacificRoot or ORSC root,
which resolve ALL names, including A-root (.coms, etc).
That's all!

I know this is anti-this-forum, but for the sake of curiosity and truth, we should all think about it.

Sure. When I type in search.etc I get nothing. Which means value=$0.
I shouldn't have to change my DNS resolution.

From domains to wars Anyway, options: thanks for your input, but I have to agree with hellstorm. You will never be able to convince all the people (and potential visitors/customers) to change their dns resolution. Not to mention that many people dont even know how. They wont even try to learn how, since they are sceptic about it. If its not se by default, most people rather levae it the way it is.. So unless microsoft implements this into their software by default, there is no way for these domains to work.

I didn't know those not interested in fiddling around with their DNS resolution were responsibile for wars and misery. I might consider doing it if you are sure it will bring about world peace
