Is there a place to look up the name of the former owner of a domain?

I would like to know who the owner is/was for an expiring domain. Or, possibly, the owner before that.

Sometimes, Alexa has it. But, it is rare.

I also know that WesternPub. (?) apparently offers a service. But, the service is part of a total package for lawyers.

And, occasionally, archives.org has some info.

So, does anyone have some suggestions for me?

Thanks,

Any help on using that - any search under "Domain Names" turns up nothing, whatever the domain I use?

Thomson & Thomson announced a "whowas" database based on archives of bulk whois data a while back. I have not used it, and do not know how complete it may be.

Thanks - 888,

But, I just had the same experience as Mr. Webname.
And, I put in a bunch of domains that we own. That, I knew
were previously owned.

John,
That was the site I was referencing at the top of the page.

I am sure you are a subscriber. But, it doesn't make sense for me
to buy a complete package.

Thanks,

It seems to work, but I didn't click the purchase button. :D

eg. Exact Domain Name: dnforum
Top Level Domain: com
Other fields are left as is.
