GE is into more things than most people can even begin to imagine; however, 50% of their revenue is from the financial sector. They are absolutely a phenomenal company. Most people think appliances.

Here's a "list" from their website:

http://www.ge.com/products_services/directory/by_product.html

A few of particular interest to me:

GE MiniGun that shoots 50 rounds per second! (3000 round per minute) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q8rNNXkOCi0. "We bring good things to life?"

They also make pressure vessels, heat exchangers, airplane turbines, wind turbines, compressors, gasification and process technology, etc.

www.GEOilandGas.com deals with the business sector I'm in. They bought our competitor several years ago, www.NuovoPignone.com.

From Wiki: The value of the brand is reinforced by ownership of two letter domain ge.com. The domain was registered on August 5, 1986.[12] General Electric is one of the few corporations worldwide to own a two letter domain name.[13] The brand is also reflected by the GE New York Stock Exchange ticker symbol.

Anyone else notice that GE has been on a ad blitz since the government hand out.
Pushing turbine engines and such.
Are they trying to sell this stuff to us?

This is nothing new at all to GE.

GE has competition, big competition. They are heavy into big time defense contractors and energy production. They manufacture jet engines and turbines of all types - electric, wind, water, steam, etc. They are very into medical equipment as well. GE has been at the forefront of more energy proficient products and less power consumption for decades. Most appliances sold today offer cost estimates for ownership based on GE's research. GE also works with many researchers and developers to produce lighter in weight and stronger materials.

GE has been a leader in these industries and has always been big into advertising.

I think it may just be coincidental that you may have started to see and pay attention to their commercials. Now, more than ever, is a good time to try and restore faith and confidence to keep and attract new investors and stock holders.

I rarely check back domains I sold or dropped for these same reasons... :p

Domaintools.com sends an alert whenever there is a onwership change of domains that I own, which will show the new owner's name. I think you have to be a member with them..

thanks,

That was the point. A person would have had to live on a deserted pacific island for the past 100 years not to know about GE. They were not advertising this heavily until lately, except possibly on NBC, which they own. They're even advertising on breaks of Glenn Beck's show, lol.
Huge company with a huge debt. Over $500 Billion in debt. Good luck paying that off.

People have the 'mis-notion' that the time to cut back advertising is in tough times.

Sure, you scale back what is not needed and go to where your audience is rather than blanket cover all media, media outlets and media channels.

But you never let your customer not know you are still in business. I have no idea of the accuracy of the debt you claim they are in. It would be a bigger debt and lose if GE suddenly and abruptly folded.
