Recently I registered a brandable domain, prior to purchase I looked for trademarks and there were none.

Today I got an email from someone claiming he has a copyright claim (not trademark) on this domain and gave me the number of the copyright (some 8 digits).

The domain as it is is just a parked page, and thus has no copyrighted materials on it so I assume this copyright claim has no real value at this point (or am I mistaken)?

It seems to me the previous owner of the domain just forgot to renew it as there was a website on it in the past.

Copyright is worth nothing. Trademarks are where its at. If they dont have a TM they have nothing really, especially when it comes to domains. Also, there is no official registry for copyright, so the 8 digits he gave are prob just made up.
