I bought www.xyz1.com for one of my obscure projects. I know what you all will think about it, so I'm not after an appraisal. What has surprised me is the number of type-ins it is getting. I can't see why anyone would type it on the offchance so it must have had a previous life. Alexa gives it a rank of 4,217,179 .

Has anyone head of it, or know what sort of site it was. There doesn't seem to be any other info. around.

From google it seems to be a domain a few companies have used in example reports or sample resumes to represent a generic domain name.

If you want to find out where the visitors are coming from, host the domain for a few weeks and check the referrers of the incoming visitors in your logs.

With a 4 million + alexa rating, it won't be significant -- maybe a few stray visitors a week. You'll get a better ranking now just because you mentioned it in this thread. ;)

You mean if I say www.xyz1.com again, I'll get my ranking down to 4,217,1797 :D

There don't seem to be any referrers which was why I thought it was all type-ins.

Thanks for that comment RJ . Maybe I'll have a rethink and see what I can put on a sample site.
