I thought the answer for all New.net domains was automatically $0.00?

home.video is actually home.video.new.net. Client software (preinstalled with most major ISPs and available for download from new.net) appends .new.net to the end of the domain, making it possible for users to type just "home.video" into their address bar and access the site. However, search engines will display this site as home.video.new.net. Generally the only value to a new.net domain is found in name branding (i.e., mass media advertising) and only when it is acceptible to lose a certain percent of visitors who don't have the new.net software installed.

This is a matter of opinion. While it is shared by many on this board (and I subscribe to this belief for the most part myself), please do not crap on my appraisal thread. I am more curious if anyone sees any value to this domain in particular, versus some arbitrary inherent value for new.net domains. I personally think that all .biz, .info, .cc, .you-name-it-crappy-ccTLD are worthless, but I don't generalize this in people's appraisal threads. There are always exceptions.

Thanks for your feedback.

I think this is a little different then the ccTLD's.

As the domain "home.video" is not within the traditional DNS environment or even an alternate DNS root, you are really asking for an appraisal of:

home.video.new.net

Does that sound correct?

Edit: new.net do run an alternate root via their ISP partners.

Very well, as requested:

home.video specifically is worth $0.00.

Exactly. home.video.new.net is the FQDN for "home.video" that resolves in the root DNS system, so that is basically what you are buying. So in that aspect, this domain has the same qualities of any other 4LD domain name. This is the domain you submit to search engines (since type-in is irrelevent from search engines) and this it the URL you use for banner ads, links, etc. However, this domain has something that other ccTLDs do not have -- brand marketability (albeit with a caveat of possible lost customers, which will decrease with the increase of new.net partners).

I am not here to espouse the virtues of New.net. I understand that as a company they have their faults. Having said that, however, you can't fault them for having a good idea and getting some of the biggest players out there to subscribe to it. What would happen if New.net strikes a deal to be included in the next MS OS? I would think some of these domains would suddenly become worth a whole lot more. And isn't that what domain prospecting is all about, anyway?
