I've been investing in domains for a while and have a decent portfolio, but I keep running into the same problem when I actually try to develop a name.

I start with a clear idea in my head. Then I start researching the niche, looking at competitors, jotting down keyword ideas, sketching out a rough site structure. Within a week I have notes scattered across a few different docs and my browser bookmarks are a mess. I lose track of what connects to what.

For those of you who take a domain from parked page to an actual project, how do you keep it all organized? Do you use a single doc, a spreadsheet, a whiteboard, or something else entirely?

I'm not looking for tool recommendations, just curious about the actual process others use to stop the research phase from turning into chaos. Do you map things out visually first, or just start building and figure it out as you go?

A rough sitemap first, then one main doc for each project sounds like a solid way to do it.

I'd keep the target audience, key pages, any research findings worth keeping, and the next few tasks all in that one place. The messy notes can stay somewhere else.

The hardest part is knowing when to stop researching and just start building. It's really easy to spend weeks planning a site when a simpler version could've been live already.
