How do I know how much a domain actually worth?

I have a friend who wants to acquire a domain name
which is registered in 1999 and its extension is a .com
with 7 letters.

Just wondering if anyone can have a solid value for it?

Thanks

Proson

If you PM me the name I would be happy to give my opinion. There is not a way possible to give usable advice with the info you have given. I totally agree with not posting the name of course - just no way to really help without knowing the name.

Otherwise - if the only info I have to work with is a 13 year old, 7 character .com domain name - I will say 50k

I would not give him a high hope without knowing the name.
You can get 7 character name in the range $10-$100 too.

Did you read his message?

He is trying to acquire the domain so it has nothing to do with "high hope" - quite the opposite actually - and with no information to go on except what he gave - the whole point being that you cannot give useful advice based on what he gave to go on.

And yes you can string together a hand reg and get it for $10 - this name is from 1999 and with no info to go on I would expect that the domain is either a word or has meaning and...guess what - the name has had meaning to someone to keep it around for 13 years...so you may need to brace yourself and be prepared to pull out the wallet.

But the whole point is that more info is needed to give useful advice.

Understood and read the message. When I said high Hope I mean he is hoping to resell the name in the $50K range after he bought it.
No one know the price until we see the name.

that is a false assumption to make, given that you "don't" know the actual domain name.

an unknown 13 year old domain:

does not mean it was owned by the same person during that period.

does not mean it was ever a website

does not mean it has any traffic

does not mean it has any specific meaning

does not mean it is an actual word

imo...

Ahhh...that makes sense. I did not see his message that way.
