I think the best is to have a generic domain name that at the same time gets traffic. Unfortunately these cost lots of money, because they can appeal to any group of buyers. Most of the domains with traffic and revenue for sale are misspellings,TM misspellings, TM variations etc. I had/have some of these, but never felt good about them.

About a year ago I noticed that all my revenues from parked.com were halved. That prompted me to look for other options for parking, and to develop more domain names.

I get little from parking. Most of my domains, hoever, come from registrations with no prior traffic. Recently I purchase a name that had some stats coming in, and while the name is sort of adult related, (and adult related names get very little PPC on Sedo apparantly), it is getting between 20-30 views per day with a CTR that is over 12%....so if you had a lot of these types.......

parking covers all my reg fees and is a nice place to leave them sit where they can get offers or some revenue until I develop them.

I think it is good to have multiple revenue streams using parking, sales, development, etc. Relying on it as your sole revenue can be tough, although some are doing it with some success.

Parking helps with the renewals but I couldn't live on it.

Negligible, though I got a $6.56 click at Namedrive last week for a domain to do with the city of Edmonton.

I use parking mainly as a stats counter, to see how many hits my domains are getting. If something starts getting more hits, I will develop a web page for it sooner. Namedrive also lets you see where the traffic comes from, and what subjects they are clicking on, so that helps with development.

Yes I park, and yes I earn some money from it. But I don't have a big typo portfolio.

I finally reached the point where my parking earnings cover the registration fee's for all of the domains I own. Not sure if other domainers consider(ed) that a milestone or not, but feels pretty good to me. Now if I decide to stop domaining and do something else, and just sit on all of the domains I own for years - it wont cost me anything (at least in theory, who knows what will happen to parking revenue and domain registration prices in the future).

Most of my parking revenue comes from Fabulous.com and Parked.com and the domains that earn me money are pretty evenly divided between poker generics, regular generics, TM typo's, non-tm typo's and expired sites. I don't have anything earning more than a few dollars per day but I have a whole bunch of them that earn $0.50-$2.00 per day, and that adds up.

Funny thing is I earn exponentially more money every day as a poker affiliate, but only check those stats a few times per month, at most. I check my domain parking stats several times per day, every single day - even check them from my iPhone when I'm not near a computer lol

I just don't understand why people park domain name anymore, its too easy to setup a $7/month hosting company and set up minisites on them. Even if each of my sites make $1 a day it means I am making at least $200 a day, what would those same names make being parked? $.01 a day? I have put minisites on my domains and got on the first page of google in under a week. The only time I park domain names is when they are waiting to be developed

I have not quite figured this whole thing out. Been at it now for about 4 months....out of 70 names or so, earning about $7/month on Sedo. Looked at other parking sites, turned down by such as Parked.com, who seems to accept only certain type of name based upon their quality name standards (OK, I have a lot of early rookie mistake names, but they are not all that bad)..since I was looking initially for passive income, this has not yet panned out to a level that makes it worth it. I now may develop some of my names for affiliate revenue, but I find that too comes only with a certain amount of traffic.....we just keep trying to learn without getting burned

maybe the mini site thing comes with the traffic optimization, but my mini sites have done little...so what is that cook book to get on Google first page in a week?

so what is that cook book to get on Google first page in a week?

Non-competitive keywords as your domain name, preferably ones that get a lot of searches. Typo's are the best example of these. Nobody targets their sites or pages for mispellings, so if your domain is <some typo of something popular>.com and you develop it - you'll rank high very quickly, because you wont have any competition.

This is why domains with keywords that get lots of searches are so valuable - they will rank well very quickly for those terms, especially if the terms are non-competitive.
