I remember using a WHOIS program last year which featured a HTTP (Web-interface) whois option so you could perform WHOIS lookups via the NIC websites, but can't remember the name of the program (uninstalled it while spring cleaning).

Anyone know what it is?

Not sure what you mean, devolution. Hey, I just added a new feature to FreeWho. Maybe that can help you out:
FreeWho Buttons
http://www.freewho.com/buttons/

Modelled after Google buttons, but for Whois search and status checking instead of web searching. It's experimental right now (not sure if we'll keep or promote it actively), but it may help you in the short run.

Best Regards,
