I have received a ridiculous low-ball offer for LPHQ.com, but wish to respond with a serious counter offer. Here is how I described the domain at AfterNIC, which is where the offer came from:

LP Headquarters --- sell LPs (audio on vinyl records).
Liquid Propane Headquarters --- sell propane and/or propane appliances.
Laser Printer HQ --- sell printer cartridges and printers.
Labour Party HQ --- if you're British.
AcronymFinder.com has 124 meanings for LP:
19 in business and finance,
22 in information technology,
29 in military and government,
18 in organizations and schools,
27 in science and medicine, and
15 in slang and pop culture.
"LP Headquarters .com" is great for so many things!

What do you guys think is a reasonable end user price to ask?

Thanks.

$2,880 always seems like a happy price for BD. :)

Did the offer come from Sedo?

If not, list the domain with Sedo and ask that the offer be made through them.

Then send it to auction.

Before sending to auction, add into the description the text you wrote here.

Let the market dictate the price, whether the market is down or not. I have seen an increase in domain name offers within the past 3-5 months and still making decent sales. So I am not sure the market is down and many are building up or investing in domain portfolios.

My gut feeling is the key to this is the HQ. As noted in several other threads on this very forum, here in the US we have the Libertarian Party.

If the party making the offer has never heard of Sedo, then there is a damn good chance that this IS the end user and not a domainer.

In that case, there is no point in sending to auction and time to get down to serious negotiations between you and them.

Just one of many strategies.

Si, I was making my point about listing with Sedo and running the auction there.

I think once the domain is on auction, the number of views increases tremendously thanks to the exposure.

Even if the offer came from Afternic, I think the chances are better (exposure wise) with Sedo.

Strategy advice offered for all domain offers was my point. A strategy that has worked very well for me.

Personally, I wouldn't send it to Sedon't.

I have only had one domain go up in price that I sent to auction. Plus, it is very unlikely that the buyer would send the offer via Sedo because they likely know the seller will send it to auction. Then there is the "chance" it could go higher.

I can send it to auction just as easily at AfterNIC as at Sedo. All I'd need to do is lower my reserve to $75 to match the low offer. It is listed both places, but the offer arrived through AfterNIC, so ethics (yes really) require me to follow through at AfterNIC.

Problem is: I don't want to risk having to sell it for peanuts, I could always develop it myself. And the only time I lowered a reserve to kick-start an auction before at AfterNIC, the auction ended by someone meeting the BIN asking price, who then backed out of the transaction weeks later during escrow, and I never found the under-bidders again.
