I just posted this issue at
http://domainnamewire.com/2005/03/25/icann-proposed-2-domain-transfer-tax/

It appears that ICANN is considering a $2 "transfer tax" on new .jobs and .travel domains. However, the language is unclear. My take is that the $2 “transfer” fee may be in lieu of the $2 the gaining registrar has to pay the registry for your one year extension upon transfer. Therefore, it might not really be a “tax”. Does anyone have additional insite into these proposed rules?

Best,
Andrew

Now I wish I hadn't sold antiICANN.com :(

They are just wanting more and more money. Atleast the government hasn't started charging for sent/recieved emails yet.

Any of new.net's "domain name extensions" can become "real" domain name extensions in the future. It's going to be a mess, too, if people trade to trademark names they held with new.net.

so in other words if .travel becomes a icann extension then your .travel name through new.net is not recognized by icann?
