IDN Domains may not be eligible for Google PR

Since August I've been trying to expand the facts on IDN & track the progress of development here in Japan.

As I started to make mock sites & add baclinks & noticed that my IDN name with limited content & plenty of backlinks, didn't produce a Google Page Rank.

Then after looking at several other IDNs I started to notice that others didn't either.

These 2 sites (Not our sites) especially should produce some PR but they don't...

Did anyone else actually notice & documument this?
Since there are many DNers here that do actually buy IDNs I thought it would be appropriate to document my findings for those interested in International Domain Names.

What is being linked to? The domain in "native" format, or the xn--* puny version? In other words, what is the text inside the link code?

Ah, then that's part of the problem. Search engines don't like "--" in domains much, so they may be imposing an algorithmic penalty.

It's not that easy to just say that because I found that IDN actually are automatically shown in native form in Google. In other words Google already converts punycode but doesn't give the sites pagerank yet.

One of my IDNs show up in search results in Google with the Japanese Characters.

I'm just wondering did anyone else notice or did anyone actually get pagerank on an IDN?
