hi ezine, unfortunately i tend to agree, most of those are not worth the registration fee. Some of them are worth the registration fee, such as incrediblehair.com, but overall you should aim for stronger domains. For example, many of those dont even make sense. FreeStartups is irrational, because who would give away free startup companies?

I recommend you try to buy domains that are in the drop lists, rather than just making up your own. Spending $500 on a very nice domain is usually more profitable than registering two dozen names you made up.

Dont be offended by this, its just my opinion.

You're right... I thought of many of these on my own. What a mistake.

For example, abettername.com was, I thought, what someone selling domain names would want. I even created a logo to go with it. Man... I've wasted a lot of time. What's the easiest way to learn domain name speculation? That's what I would LOVE to know.

You can start by browsing the forums here. There is a wealth of information here about speculating. Each person has a method that works for them. Just because something works for me, does not mean it will work for somebody else and vice-versa.

Some people do well with Adult names. I do not. I want rid of all mine and will not have anything to do with them anymore. My specialization is one word .net and .org names. Some people do not like that. . .

Take the time to read over the information here, and ask questions. There is no "right" or "wrong" way to play this game

I wouldn't say they are all rubbish, but you do have to more selective in registering names for resale purposes. slimville.com, for example, is good.

Actually, it's your name (ezinestein) that draw my attention. Is it derived from Eisenstein?

Ezinestein was an idea I had about developing a course teaching how to make money online with e-zines. So I mixed ezine with Einstein and came up with ezinestein (ease-eye-n-styne). I thought it would link his intelligence to the course =)

Ez i'm still new to this as well but i like to think i have picked it up quite well in the 4 or so months i have been looking at domain names...

my advice is do what i did... write a list of all the domains you 'think up' and just skim over the list every few days and if after two weeks of adding a name you are still amped about it then register it... believe me the names you think are great at first can soon lose their appeal. after a while of doing this you should find you are more conservative with your purchases and you start to see what is desirable in a domain...

but an even bigger tip is to trawl through the old posts on this forum and see what peoples opinions are of the names people have... it makes a good measure to check the names you want to get against to see if they will be worth anything.

oh and NEVER post domains up for appraisal until you have registered them... its a paranoid way of working but there are a lot of people who are not 'part' of the forum community that have no qualms about registering it first if its any good. if you find you get on well with a member then a pm can be ok depending on who you send it to.

p.s. logostreet has potential as a developed site but has no outright value based on the name alone apart from to any potentially interested buyer. check out some of namepoppers domains for sale threads he is the site expert at shifting 'brandable' domains for a small profit.

I agree with Ciqala, write the names down and let them sit for a while, think why are the names still available? Do not use hyphens or numbers, one word dictionary variants are better than two words and don't bother with three worders.

Most of all, DO NOT register names after a visit to the local pub. What seems like a brilliant idea with a few pints inside you, usually turns into a credit card hangover. I know, I've done it more than once..

That is excellent advice! I usually cannot remember any of the domains I though up after visiting a pub, so I use the pub’s computer and register the names at the pub!

My recommendation is that if you register names at a pub, write them down legible. Preferable do not on a beer bottle label because you may forget to take the empty bottle home. For a while, I wrote the names down on my shirt – but once I washed it before reading it.
