Never done this before and not sure if it will be successful.

The domain is a .net and is at GoDaddy the status is "Pending Transfer".

Will there be any problems because I have done it so close to its expiry date?

I've already initiated the transfer and could still get the Authorization Code to do the transfer.

Do you still think I should call them?

No problem, if you have the auth code and the domain name is unlocked, go ahead.
You can even expedite the transfer at godaddy after the gaining registrar has launched the request.

I got an e-mail saying you could do this but couldn't figure out how to do this in GoDaddy. Any chance you can help?

Log in to your domain manager, click the drop down "Domains" on the left and go to "transfers", should see it or maybe need to select "Pending Transfers Out"
You should then be able to put a check in the box next to the domain and it will give you the "accept/reject" option just above it.

Thanks for your help. I eventually figured it out and the domain name is already transferred to the new registrar.

I've had no issues with them but the renewal prices are insane.
