I am using Windows XP and want to know if anyone knows how to turn off annoying popups that come while I surf? They are not coming from my desktop IP. They definitely have something to do with IE

Norton Internet Security 2003 kills popups but that's additional to XP of course.

install the latest google toolbar.

it's free. it's from google. it's safe.

look up google toolbar and download the latest beta (the old
one doesn't have popup protection).

good luck!

I use PopupCop. I love it. You can use it 30 days free, but then have to register it.

GT Web downloaded Stop-The-Pop-Up and it is working beautifully! On the site it said something about $20 but didn't ask for my email address for a trial period so I'll run it but may purchase anyway.

Thanks A Bunch!

You can do it directly within IE settings.

But you may lose some information.

I can tolerate popups, as long as not pop up hell. :-D

Just to be aware, it's very likely that if you ad the google bar to your browser, that they are tracking every website you visit.

This is how Alexa keeps it's stats. I am not 100% sure Google is doing so, but it seems VERY likely!

If this does not bother you, then it's no problem. Just believe in full disclosure!

I know people that installed the Alexa Bar, then found out they were tracking them and they freaked out! Even nthough it's in the TOS at Alexa!

So..... who ever reads the directions, LOL???

google makes it explicitely clear in their signup procedure that they do track the websites that are visited, but they do not pin those stats to identifiable user data.

also, they give you an option to not have your sites tracked, but the toolbar has fewer features.
