folks, how is it going to affect u and your biz??

Many developing nations complain that the world's most visible Internet governance body (U.S.-based Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN.org) ) does not adequately represent their interests and should be scrapped in favor of a group allied with the United Nations.

full story from WashingtonPost

Just because they are United Nations - does not mean to say they are unbiased.

With most of income paid by big business - UN WIPO has clear interests in favour of trademark lobby.

These people should go on trail for aiding and abetting the violation of trademark and competition law - they are corrupt.

NO WAY. The UN is a very bad organization in oh so many ways. I would not trust them at ALL. Complain all you want about ICANN, but they run their business 100 times better and more fairly than the UN. The only thing that keeps the UN from getting totally out of control is the US veto. The UN is all about politics. A focused organization like ICANN much better serves the needs of the world.

Under the current system, each country has its own country code to administer. What could be more fair than that? And, the generic domains are available to everyone without regard to their country. I bet that a lot of the repressive countries want more control over what their citizens can read on the Internet.

It will never happen. Trust me U.S. will have majority control forever if any kind of lost.
