It seems like SnapNames, Pool, etc. get all the good names. For really good names, this means an auction and very high prices. Is it possible using drop catching software to capture a popular name?

Thanks.

Andy

most likely no
I used some.... they are junk - use snapnames

Andy,
For popular names, It is nearly impossible.
Why pay thousands of dollars for a lll.com on snapname if you can pay a couple hundred software fee and get it for free?
The registrars have dedicated connections to verisign. Average domainers have no chance to compete with them. Average registrars can not compete with Snapnames and Pool. In addition to that, Snapnames have agreements with several registrars. Those registrars reserve the expiring names for snapnames auction exclusively. Those names don't go through the regular drop cycle.

Almost impossible, the drop catchers open multiple connections through different registrars.

i remember a discussion in a thread where an enom's programmer talked about this - you've practically got 0 chance

I used some software in the past, honestly, I regret spending my money on them. They will only catch a name if it is not backordered from the big drop catchers.

Registrars have dedicated RRP connections to the registries - they can attempt to register a domain several hundred times per second. Catchers like Pool and SnapNames have contracts with many registrars, so you can't compete. The best you could do is become a registrar.

There was a time a few years ago when it was possible, particularly with .ORGs - I wrote a script that caught some A-grade names, like fitness.org, television.org, diary.org, actress.org.

With snapnames' connections and all the domain tasters out there, you are going to be wasting your time and money.

Focus on quality instead of quantity. Remember, at snap, all those high bids have an underbidder.

Anyone know if scripts can catch .info or .biz or .tv or something besides .com?

Thanks for all your feedback. I figured it might be a waste of money, but thought I'd ask.

Its really a kick in the teeth to think that so many amazing domains were caught at regfee prices back before snap and pool dominated the dropped domains market. Just think of all those people who made their money doing this in the past wouldn't stand a chance today.

IS some Catching software Suggested
