not sure if this is the right place to post but ..

I found a 2 keywords .com domain based on a product.
Google returns 755,000 results for it and the OVT for the 2 keywords is about 500 +

I have 2 questions
Is it worth to register based on OVT?
And how much OVT is OK for a domain name to register?

One more :)

How about a 41783 word1 word2 OVT and the domain is word1-word2.com?

Thanks

I would say that OVT is good but not huge. I have names with high OVT but very little traffic. If you have an idea for development and there are no TM issues with that particular product then it's a different thing and you may want to register it.

IMO there is no OVT 'threshold' for registrations, it also depends on the name itself and the branding potential. But I would never register on the basis of OVT alone.

#1 is just a combination of 2 general words
#2 is a person's name

ant thoughts are appreciated

Its only $ 7.20 to find out.
If you are afraid of wasting $7.20, PM me and I'll register it for you, and if it is good, I'll transfer it back to you for $7. If I sucks, no harm no foul.

Bob: I just started a pretty big research on OVT and domain names and it's not about only these 2 domains :)

Post few names on this thread and we'll see how good you are at "domain mining"

just regged KILLA-CAM COM for a mini site

Most of the names that i reg are largely determined by OVT.

I think OVT its a nice start when registering a domain...

It depends on the extension too. I wouldnt care for high ovt thats a .biz domain. I would rather choose low ovt with .net or .com

BE careful of the dash in your overture domain search.
The dash counts as a space so overture results might be deceptive.

I checked the OVT of the 2 keywords only.
I know the domain name itself is not going to get type-ins but SEs like MSN might like it ...
will see in a few weeks

I've got OVT on a site of mine that is about 500 and I've made a few hundred bucks on it over the past 4 months.

The funny thing is, I can't seem to get ANYONE on these "domaineer" forums that think it has any value at all. Traffic is relatively low, I suppose, because I've done nothing to grow it but I still get affiliate sales and PPC Rev off the site despite the low traffic.

In this case, I think the OVT was a good indicator... BUT...

Depending on whether or not a reply comes from an interested party, you will get the most BIZAAR replies about OVT not counting in one circumstance or another... in my case, the reply was "just because people are searching for it doesn't mean they'll visit." How silly is that?

Anything to devalue your domain and generate a better sale for the domaineer.

Seems to me that OVT is a two edged sword. Used against you to devalue your domains while used against you when you want to buy a domain.

Consider that it rarely reflects the REAL search patterns of volume of users as does Google and the numbers at OVT are manipulated each time you search to see how much you are searched!

Regardless, there are alot of folks that have bought into the idea that you can't buy a domain without OVT.

How much traffic did AskDrZ.com get before Dodge bought it up? LOL!

I'm sitting on a 2 word, keyword domain with over 2100 OVT and can't decide whether or not to buy it... Who knows?
