Although it would be interesting and amusing to see all the names the Dems and Republicans have registered..

I sold ProDemocrat.com and ProRepublican.com a couple years ago.. I see they are for sale at another speculartors site today..

The Republican and Democratic national committees should properly be in .org domains anyway, since they're noncommercial organizations. (The Libertarian Party gets this right; its site is at lp.org.)

The "04" obviously refers to 2004.

Probably the stupidest name more than 10 characters I ever reg'd was "CourtAppointedPresident.com" the day after Bush was elected. (I'm an independent, but a spade is a spade.) I tried to interest Democrats.com in the name for a parody site, they politely turned me down. The name expired a quiet death.

Why shouldn't a nonprofit have a .com domain? Because it screams "We're a bunch of morons who don't even know the correct TLD for noncommercial sites!", that's why.

Although I agree you are correct that non-profits should be using .org, the problem is not really so much that we're a bunch of morons as much as most users have little or no understanding of the difference. Dot com is simply the most recognized and credible brand name, and it may be foolish to use the .org if you don't also own the .com. So, best to use .org and redierct the .com to it.

btw, Dan, I do like your site, but you should either lose the pink or add some flowers

There is no such thing as a "correct TLD". There are just bad TLDs, not so great TLDs, good TLD's, and .com. Any organization who uses .org without bothering with the .com (if it is available to them) is not a very sophisticated organization and is just allowing someone else the opportunity to buy the .com domain to capitalize on their .org site.

Fact is people tend to type in .com when they type in a url.
