You decide what to do with your property, unless there is a contract/agreement between you and this guy that domain is pointed to.

thanks dax.
so I can point example.com to cnn.com without having permission?
so for example, lets say I own a different site that is pointed to cnn.com, yet I use my email for it.
so I am [email protected]
people see my email, and them decide to check out my website, only to see cnn.com
Isnt that illegal as they might think I am part of cnn.com?
just wondering...

I dont think there are any laws or restrictions but there are certain internet etiquette rules that your service provider lists where you should not willingly get involved in others people business, piss them off... basically "starting trouble" is not acceptable :0

not looking to annoy anyone, thats why I am asking.
Just wondering what is ok and what isnt. After all, pointing a domain would only bring more traffic to them.
The problem comes, and my point, is, when you still use an email address that is for a domain that is being forwarded.

because I dont have a site associated with the domain ready, and I want to show off to this nice woman I met and send her an email, so when she checks out the iste associated with the email, she'll say, wow!
:)
that's the bold truth.

Basically, that was NOT what i was saying :-D
I assumed that you are interested in diverting the domain to YOUR other domain.

Anyway, for diverting yourdomain.com to cnn.com you must have permission of cnn.com because it is their property, not yours nor public property.

You cannot park your car in someone else's garage :-D

but if you are just forwarding, it isnt like parking in someone elses garage.
it's more like honking from your garage, and it can be heard from theirs. :)

I have seen many domains that are forwarded for example to political parties, or other organizations, just wondering if anyone had any trouble with that.

Eventually, of course, I will develop this domain, but we are working on 30 sites at the moment, and quite a few forums, so time is limited.

I would think you need permission. One good thing about doing this (when redirecting your own domain to someone elses) is that your domain might get indexed in search engines as their site.

I also feel that you would not need any permission unless it was a touch and delicate situation. I basically do not see any difference between forwarding your domain to another site or directly linking them from a prominent position from your site. You basically send them traffic and in most cases, they would actually be happy.

NW

thanks namewolf!

Do you know how to forward thorugh email yet still get an email account?
I usually use my servers, and although I have a reseller account at enom, I have never used their email (is it free?).
Or do I go through my server and redirect to mentioned site, which is easy to do... but I prefer to keep this one at enom.
TIA!

You should be able to achieve this by modifying zones and using Enom DNS. MX records can still point to Enom and you can get WWW pointed/forwarded to the IP of the site that you wish to point the domain to.
