Doc Com, This maybe off topic, but my husband was into practical shooting, Bianchi Cup and IPSC before that, he had the whole reloading thing going and just lost interest in it over time...Sometimes I carry a 9mm Sig in my purse to protect myself against the perverts, when you've been sexually assaulted and followed home late at night, your outlook on protecting yourself drastically changes....And I doubt your friend bought those magazines to resell them, sounds more like stocking up before the big quake.
OFF TOPIC; Actually, purely for reselling. He was part of a group buy to get a price break at $9.00 each along with the purchasing of several thousands of rounds of Russian Ammo (whatever the legal limit is per person). He knows what he is doing and knows the market and is a very successful business person (VERY successful). He was trying to buy some years ago when the price was sky high. He's perfectly sane and rational. Entrepreneur...just like domainers.
ON TOPIC: Actually, I have gotten him interested in domains and utilizing them to his advantage. He's got one monster of a domain regged in 1996 that he uses for his business. I about flipped out when he told me what it is. He had no idea what he was sitting on and the money he could make by including Google Adsense on his site. He has had this name for so long with the same service I think he was still paying like $49.00 renewal fees and about $29.99 month hosting for his one and only site and domain. I showed him all the stats, PR, links into his site. He had no idea that his site was being used and referenced so heavy. (511 indexed links, #4 on google search for the word and keyword, PR7). It is also a prime example where OVT is not at all a reflection of the true worth or value in terms of the name. Very high end, exclusive high dollar clientel worldwide. Being as such, it will not be a highly searched term as most people simply can not afford it. So in some cases age does have its benefits.
OFF TOPIC: Sig Sauer is a sweet and not so cheap little piece. My buddy that did the 1000 yard competition did his own reloads. What a science that can be. Personally, I'm Ruger when it comes to handguns. Used to have Berettas and wonder why did I ever get rid of them. Otherwise Benelli, Franchi for shotguns and Savage and Mossburg rifles. Teaching my wife to handle them for the reasons you pointed out. Plus with me working nights at the moment. She is very safe and secure with our four dogs but she needs to know how to handle and respect the shotguns.
I do think a new gun ban will come into play along with heavy attention to the large capacity mags, especially for handguns now.
ON TOPIC: I am sure that new legislation will spawn a whole new crop of domain names. Every newsmaker does, as we are witnessing. I was just commenting on an appraisal for Imus the other day. I felt the domain was not worth much and the person seemed a little offended. I related that he was hot at the moment, but also potentially washed up and just a passing star. I used the example of Britany, then Anna Nicole, then Imus...each only lasted as long as the next big story to replace them. This was just a couple of days ago. Unfortunately, I was expecting another celebrity rather than a tragedy.
Hi,
I was going to donate about $50 to whatever "main fund" that came out to help everyone effected by this. I decided the best thing I could do is register domains I thought that some prople would go after for their own personal gain.
I ended up registering 14 domains (more than I was going to) all related to this subject. I have all "re-diirected" to:
http://www.vt.edu/tragedy/memorial_fund.php
I emailed the webmaster of the site and told him about it and I am going to just give him the "sub-account" they are all in. This way he can do what he wants with them and then VT will be in total control of them.
He has not contacted me back yet.
I thought this was an ok idea...now they are out of the hands of anyone that might have used them for their own gain or worse someone "tricking" people to donate to a fake site or something.
Peace,
Dan
BTW: already had a couple emails from people wanting to buy two of them...I turned them down. They were not from VT or a creditable charity.
WOW...very impressive. Where is the money going? I can help promote the heck out of this.
If you don't mind, pm me a list of names.
