I have seen "official derivatives" of Linux, as DOTCOMS, unused and then expired worthless without much interest in capturing them, then re-registered and parked again without much revenue.

It might get some value IF DEVELOPED.

Kubuntu and Ubuntu are trademarked. However, if you were to develop it into something that was useful to the Kubuntu community, I doubt you'd get pursued for it.
