Hmm - does anyone know how/if they market the .la extension offline ?

In other words it would be interesting to know if there happens a lot of offline marketing in LA like tv ads, print ads and so on.
If so, i could imagine .la would even do better than .ws or alike.
Like it's a lot easier to market a new extension to just 1 city so i could see endusers living in LA wanting that extension.
And as on the www.la site they sell it as "the world's first and only city to receive its own unique Internet address" - that sounds pretty appealing i have to admit.
Guess if i would live in LA i'd think it's cool to have a .la name.

.la is not good for resellers for these reasons

1. Only people in LA would be interested in it and they can always use other ext e.g. info, biz, ws, cc. When there are alternatives, the price of domain can't set high. Remember that .WS was there before .biz/.info and was marketed as .website so it's available worldwide, but still died.

2. .LA is not language specific e.g. unlike .de or .cn. That's why business in LA can get any other extensions without any problem.

3. Most generic words don't work on this extension. It's more local specific. They generic words that work are search.la, fitness.la. But other such as walk.la, generic.la, premium.la does't really work. End users would prefer to use their business name (if they ever want to use .la) e.g. sundancespas.la, hollywoodneighborhoodcouncil.la.

4. Only business that do business locally will be interested in .LA. International or other online business will stay away from it.

5. $50+ a piece. too expensive for resellers. Premium names cost 100, 1000, 5000, or even 50,000.

Just my 2 cents

That ALONE will already be good enough. It's "eL-Ay" we're talking about! ;)
