This domain brokerage enterprise is a snarky business.
Lots of folks hold themselves out as "brokers," but I question their qualifications. When the going gets tough, for example, when one of their hawked domains turns out to be stolen, what do they do? Plead that they are just a poor college student in a dorm and have no obligation to anyone?
When you do business with a self-professed "broker" --it is AT YOUR OWN RISK!
Many "brokers" do not have stated terms and conditions. Many appear to have no insurance. Nor segregated accounts. Nor escrow licenses.
Without those basic things, what does it mean to say you are a "broker?" Maybe it just means just that you want a piece of the action --and none of the responsibility.
As an alternative, let's compile a list here of the truly legitimate brokers and/ or escrow agents who handle domains.
Here are the criteria. The company should have:
*A website devoted to escrow or domain brokerage
*Insurance to protect clients
*A segregated account for client money
*Stated terms and conditions
*An escrow license
The only companies that I believe qualify are the following:
1. Escrow.com
2. GreatDomains.com
3. AfterNIC.com
4. SEDO.com
Please post any others.
