This just dropped - and I caught it.

NewarkNJ.org

This was the official site for the 3rd oldest city in the United States > Newark, New Jersey - and of course it's also the largest city in the state of New Jersey.

There are 132 link references to the site on Google alone......

http://www.google.com/search?as_lq=www.newarknj.org&btnG=Search

Everything from the water & fire department - to the mayor - and transportation.

This is an interesting catch. The questions is what do I do with it? Heh!

Hey Pop! I'm about 90 minutes from Newark...very rough town, not a lot of positives happening. Maybe you can create a "positive" site about Newark and have some up and coming businesses advertise on the site.

I can't imagine why the city would have let their official domain/site drop.

Must have been a mistake?

I just checked the Archive - and there is a ton of stuff. Goes back to 98.

Nice catch! I wonder if they opted for the .us names that were reserved for cities. You could offer local web services (hosting/design/domains) and a community directory. It might be hard to meet your clients though.

Nice name Pops. Place names with the .org extension work very well I think. You could make a directory of hotels, restaurants etc.. and charge a small monthly listing fee. Good luck with it.

I haven't seen any drop since the .net & .com drops started up again. Whats the big secret?
