I am not pointing fingers here because nothing is proven .. However, I have been keeping a close eye and keeping track of this and things do seem suspicious..

I find it very strange that alot of names that drop through snapnames have decent overture numbers (with ext) right before they drop .. Then, mysteriously as if (well, you know) these results disappear into oblivion..

Case in point, the SalesTraining.com sale of $85,000 not too long ago.. For November, had some results.. Now for December, NADA .. Same with LeatherHandbags.com and countless and countless others..

I am just raising something I have been tracking and it is becoming all too common... Is network solutions and snapnames manipulating the system to increase profits ? If so, and if I was the guy who shelled out $85k for sales trraining, I would be mighty pissed.. And, if I had that kinda jing hangin' around I could afford a lawyer for a major lawsuit..

Food for thought :)

Yes that does make sense, however, I have tracked names from way before it entered the drop pool and they still had some results back then.. As soon as it's dropped, nothing .. Seems like if there is some kind of conspiracy, netsol may be manipulating something.. Just an educated guess per se.. I guess it's called a "hypothesis" . :)

It would not be that hard to manipulate Ovt results.

Sarah,

I agree that some of the ovt. numbers drop just after they been thru the
auction process.

But, three possible explanations are

1. There was good type in traffic before the name expired. And, it tapered
off when the site went down. Which, means that the type-in might return.

2. Individual suitors for purchasing the name are typing in causing the upswing.

3. Services and programs following the expiring name industry are constantly scanning
for traffic stats might be causing this upswing.

I'm sure firms like Snapnames and Network Sol. would not cause temporary
upswing like this.

Besides wanting to conduct themselves in a professional, ethical manner.
They would not want to get caught in such a fraudulent action.

I have a theory on the recent Ovt trend but it doesn't point towards NetSol/Snapnames. Sarah, the results you are mentioning are not just with happening with Snapnames auctions.

Sometimes names that have a low amount of type ins on Ovt dont show up for other months as they didnt meet the 25 search minimum. It was just an off month for that keyword/term.

Heres some old numbers I have saved.

These type in stats on Ovt were from last year.

April - salestraining.com 27
May - salestraining.com 34

April - leatherhandbags.com 48

I think even when a domain starts to get near expiration, people monitoring the keywords start typing the name in to see if the site is developed, who the competition is, how high it ranks in the search engines, how many links are coming in, etc. Once it hits expired, pending delete, and delete, I would guess it goes even higher. There may be some monitoring scripts that use web searches to value or find names as well that could influence the numbers.

I know in following domain cycles in whois.sc, I often click the site link when near expiration to see if it's developed. or active. I'm sure others do the same.

Those results go up and down.. the people with the money to make purchases like that on a regular basis have been around long enough that they 'know' what constitutes a good name. They are not looking at the overture number like you are. I am not talking about 'one time' name purcahsers new to the biz.. these repeat purchasing pros have their own creteria.

Incidentally "salting" of the overture tool does occur but it is almost always on crap akdjlkasjd 34

Crap like that... it's obvious and incorrect. The pros know how to spot it. The suckers only buy once and write off those supplying the lists forever.. so it's self policing in a sense.
