GoDaddy is the cheapest backorder service if you pay up front ($18.99) and can be used until you successfully capture a domain name.
Namejet comes in at $29 to $69 (depending on the registrar it belongs to) after a successful capture.
Pool is a flat $60 fee and Snapnames is $59.
All the services give the option to other members to place a backorder also (besides GoDaddy, only one person can place a backorder and it sends it to a public auction), which will send the domain to a private auction where the "cheapest" price may be hundreds if not thousands depending on popularity of the name.
