So do you mean to tell me that there was actually a "last bid" of $3M on student.com, $4.5M on slots.com, 4.5M on auction.com, and 1M on obgyn.com, etc. during this auction, even though there was no sale? or are some of these "pass" figures the reserve prices?

Tell me if I'm reading this right, If the price range for a domain is 25K to 50K, are you saying the starting bid could be below 25K?...If this is what they did, what determines the starting bid price?

Yes. They let people pretty much yell out the starting bids and I would say most opened in the 5-10K neighborhood some were quickly bid up. The one that stood out as the name of the day was megayachts.com. The auction preview sheet suggested a selling price of 25K or so. Bidding opened at 5K sale ended at 150K with the crowd applauding.

student and slots - auctioneer spent a minute trying to entice people up to 3-4 million
however I don't think there was any real money at those levels. Just tried to drum up interest.
OBGYN: He pronounced as Ob-Jen and didn't spend as much time.
According to silent page reserves are as follows:
Slots: $ 5,882,360.00
Student: $ 3,500,000.00
OBGYN: $ 1,500,000.00

I was a bit surprised at this one

DiscountPerfumes.com, $80,000 sold

Doesn't seem like what would be considered "Premium"

??????

According to the auctioneer, there were bids on these names. I personally did not sell all of the bids, but it was a large ballroom and I didn't have a great view of the floor. The auctioneer also had access to proxy bids that people couldn't seen by anyone but him and Monte. There were actually a few names that appeared to be just below the reserve, and when the auctioneer looked at Monte to see if he'd let a name go for the price, a majority of the time Monte said yes. It did seem a bit strange that some of the bids stopped at such high numbers without selling. IMO, if someone wants to bid $3,000,000 for Student.com, they would kick in an extra half a million to secure it, or Moniker would try to reach out to the potential buyer and the owner to see if some compromise could be met.

How do you define premium?
If I had money to buy and develop, I would gladly pay more.

ovt of more than 100k for discount perfume
google result for exact term "discount perfumes" - 435K
google result for general term discount perfumes - 1,330K

Ratio for ovt and google pages are 4:1 and 10:1
And perfume industry is huge.

I think buyer is very happy with purchase.

I suspect that the sellers of these very high end domains that just barely missed their reserves, had people in the room bid the names up, with the secure knowledge that their bid would be passed. That way, if someone is on the fence, they might be pushed to bid higher, and at the very least, they can always claim to a prospective buyer that they turned down a $3 million dollar offer.

This is a very common technique with high end art and furniture sales.

435 search results is hardly anything to write home about, although that isn't a bad ovt score. That seems like an unusually high ovt score, actually, compared to similar terms. Still I don't see any appeal in that domain.

my two cents
