Whois Server Version 1.3

Domain names in the .com, .net, and .org domains can now be registered
with many different competing registrars. Go to http://www.internic.net
for detailed information.

Domain Name: XXX.COM
Registrar: NETWORK SOLUTIONS, INC.
Whois Server: whois.networksolutions.com
Referral URL: http://www.networksolutions.com
Name Server: NS2.XXX.COM
Updated Date: 16-aug-2002

>>> Last update of whois database: Mon, 19 Aug 2002 04:51:00 EDT <<<

The Registry database contains ONLY .COM, .NET, .ORG, .EDU domains and
Registrars.

Domain not found locally, but Registry points back to local DB.
Local WHOIS DB must be out of date.

Can anyone tell me what this means (the last line)?

Thanks

The name has been taken out of the Root Server. Normally, this means the name is about to drop. But in the past, Snaps has sent me false alarms.

It means it will drop on the 22 (6 days) they frequently drop it early on the 21st (5 days).

Unless of course someone pays up in the meantime or it gets sold out the back door:D

What do you guys make of this record?

No match for "XXXXXX.COM".

They sent me a stupid note back saying:

That domain is currently in the billing phase, and will have WHOIS information listed once this is complete. I'm sorry for any inconvenience that this may cause you.

Customer - 08/13/2002 10:17 AM
Name: XXXX
Email: [email protected]
Phone #: XXX-XXX-XXXX
Problem Type: Account Changes
Specific Domain: XXXXXX.COM
Why can't I register this domain? It has NO record, and it has been in this state for a while now (over a month or so at least). Has it been lost track of? Who can I contact?
Thanks.

Seems a bit whacky.

I have been tracking a domain name at Dotster that has the same info for the whois.
Does your name end with an "e"? Just curious.

It ends in "e" and is 6 characters.
What letter does your name begin with?

Hopefully (but regretably) Dotster has a track record of this type of goofiness. At least I won't feel this is an anomoly ( and more of a NetSol-like sense of bad management ). I was getting a little bit of peace of mind thinking NetSol was the only one with no sense of what their system does with names with an ambiguous status.

I came across a whois similar to this recently. It said there was no record and it displayed a code. I don't remember what the name was or who it was registered with though.

Whois-Search, if that was for the record I listed, uh, huh... its been like this for over a month, and its still like that. It's a bit freakish to keep waiting on (although no big shakes of a name).

Domain, cool, we're looking at different names. Hm, looks like its not an isolated case. --Oh, well.

Whois search is right. When a registrar lands a domain in the drops it then goes into the billing phase. Dotster among others leave them sitting like that until the owner get around to paying for them.
