Most Valuable Domain Name?

Forget about overture - it's only a guideline and a weak one at that. The point is a niche like gay.com or ebony.com is not as profitable/lucrative as owning the whole sector ie sex.com. Steen I see what your saying, but you are very wrong in this instance.

Out of interest why do you say OVT is a weak guideline?

I always use OVT when buying traffic names and it has yet to let me down once. The only weakness I can think of with OVT is hyphenated domains, when the results can be sketchy.

sex com = sex.com (all searches for sex.com convert to sex com)

sex.com = 282k ovt w/ext

gay.com 468k ovt w/ext

More traffic, better traffic.

How's it not better?

because "sex com" doesn't = "sex.com"

Hi Jordan,

The overture for "sex.com" isn't the same as the "sex com" that is showing. I have previously seen the real overture and it is well into the millions. For some reason, certain sites are absent from overture. Google.com has only appeared in the last few months..

Rob I don't believe that is a fair comparison due to Overture recently dropping "adult entertainment" sites.

All those stats were taken today, at the same time, using the same tool. How is that not a fair comparison?

Well I can give you better than overture :)

The domain gets 200 - 300k uniques per day (sex.com)

if you search for sex.com and it goes to sex com then that means overture uses sex com for sex.com

unless ofcourse 300k people searched for "sex com" last month :)

“Gay” = 652781

Jordan,

Do you really think gay.com gets more traffic than sex.com?

Just look at the OVT results without extension, the ‘gay’ scene is FAR narrower than the ‘sex’ scene and the OVT results reflect this.

Yes, 300k people searched for "sex com" last month.

"gay.com" 486985
"gay com" 9310

sex.com hands down.

I've met Gary, and he's not hurting for money.

gay.com is very nice though.

Gambling is too regulated.

If you own sex.com, you own the whole city. If you own gay.com, you only own the ritziest neighborhood in that city.

I'm pretty sure sex.com is converted into sex com Beachie.

But we'd have to ask overture in order to be 100% sure :)

sex.com would sell for more than any other name hands down,

HOWEVER if gay.com gets 500k uniques per day (assumed not actual), and sex.com gets 200-300k uniques per day (verified with owner) then, and gay is more targetted and converts better, then it would make more money therefore I think it's worth more.

- 2 cents -

google.com i think, or maybe yahoo.com or microsoft.com ?
if we were considering existing names, ebay is worth more than most of the above put together. 90% of eBay visitors are willing to pay money for something or businesses looking to sell.

microsoft's traffic is mainly due to update.microsoft.com which is also an automatic subdomain' which the user themself rarely visits.

although i think google.com is one of the only sites with PR10, only 5% of users are willing to pay for a service or product, same with Yahoo!

google IS pr :)

ofcourse they will get a 10

"sex.com" does not get converted to "sex com", because:

(a) I've seen the results for sex.com prior to it being hidden, and they were HIGH.
(b) If it were the case, why wouldn't "gay.com" get converted to "gay com"
(c) The overture for "sex" is 5,846,168. The overture for "gay" is only 652,781. It's clear which is the more common term.

sex.com, PERIOD. No other DOMAIN NAME even comes close. :-O

-Joe

actually...

PORN = OV 7,188,280
SEX = OV 5,846,168

No other domain comes close? I wonder.

I agree sex is a 3 letter, but over 1,000,000 more searches really does add a bit more value to the term porn.

Just my assumption :)

from my recollection, I've always seen it around 200-300k

In the end, overture numbers mean nothing, because the name gets 200-300k uniques per day.

Best,

porn.com 68775
gay.com 486985

Porn.com isn't even in the same ballpark.
